Basic Functions

Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and specifications, using hand tools, power tools and electrical and electronic test equipment

Essential Functions:

1. Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment, such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controller, following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and voltage testers.
2. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment. Connects cables and wires between machines and equipment following: manuals, schematic diagrams and blueprint, using hand tools and test equipment as needed.
3. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables using necessary equipment.
4. Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discusses malfunction with other plant service workers to diagnose malfunction.
5. Replaces faulty electrical components of machine, such as relays, switches and motors, and position sensing devices, using necessary equipment.
6. Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards using electronic test equipment and hand tools. Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors. May push buttons and/or press keys on robot controller, teach pendant and programmable controller to program automated machines, such as robots, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions and to verify repairs.
7. May plan layout of wiring and install wiring, conduit and electrical apparatus in buildings as per established procedures.
8. May diagnose and replace faulty mechanic hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. May be required to hold electrician's license.
9. Installs new equipment as needed.
10. Various other duties as assigned.


Education/Training: High School Graduate, 2 years College or Electrical Certification

Experience: Journeyman/Electrical Experience 3+ years

Skills/Aptitude: Mechanical ability, math aptitude, ability to troubleshoot problems
